Turn a PDF into a practice test

Multiple choice tells you whether you recognise the answer; a real test asks you to write it. Memo turns the PDF into a test paper like the ones teachers set, marks it part by part and gives you a grade.

A real test, like at school

The real app, with a sample lecture. Yours shows your own material.

How it works

  1. Open Memo, choose Upload a document and pick the PDF from your phone or computer.
  2. Memo reads every page, including the scanned ones, and works out how the material is structured.
  3. Open the Test tab and Memo writes a test paper from the note, the way a teacher would put one together.
  4. Write the test under exam conditions, hand it in, and read the marking for every question you lost points on.

What you get

  • A school-style test paper with the kinds of questions teachers set
  • Written answers, not only multiple choice
  • Marking part by part, and a grade on your country's scale
  • A paper you can print and write on, then hand in on your phone

Tips for the best result

  • Write the test without the PDF open, with a timer. It only predicts the real test if you take it like one.
  • Print the paper if your exam is on paper: writing by hand is slower, and it is better to find that out now.
  • Read the marking on every answer that lost points, even the ones that were nearly right.

What you can upload

Any PDF: lecture handouts, exported slides, textbook chapters, articles. Scanned PDFs work too, because Memo reads the pages as images when there is no text in them.

A very large PDF is best split by chapter. One note per chapter is also easier to revise than one note for a whole textbook.

Questions

Which grading scale does it use?

Your country's school scale, so the grade reads the way your teacher's would.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. When a page is a picture rather than text, Memo reads the picture, so scanned handouts and photographed books work too.

Does the PDF have to be in English?

No. Memo writes the study material in the language the PDF is in.

Can I see the answers before I hand the test in?

No, and that is on purpose: the answer key is never sent before you hand the paper in, so the test stays a real test.
