Turn a PDF into study notes

A forty-page handout is not something you can learn from the night before. Memo reads the PDF and writes notes organised by topic, with the definitions spelled out and the main points marked, so you learn from a few pages instead of forty.

IS lecture – week 4

29/08/2026, Audio, 48 min

Quick overview

Business information systems collect and process the information that supports decision-making in companies.

Key takeaway: Without good data, even the best system will not produce good decisions.

Types of system

  • Transactional – captures the day-to-day business events.
  • Decision support – analysis and scenarios for management.
  • ERP – ties the processes into one data model.
The real app, with a sample lecture. Yours shows your own material.

How it works

  1. Open Memo, choose Upload a document and pick the PDF from your phone or computer.
  2. Memo reads every page, including the scanned ones, and works out how the material is structured.
  3. In a few minutes you have notes organised by topic, written in the language of your material.
  4. Read the notes once, then switch to flashcards or the quiz on the same note to check what stayed.

What you get

  • Structured notes with headings, the key ideas marked and the definitions spelled out
  • Explanations where the material only hints at something
  • The full transcript, for anything that was recorded
  • Notes you can read aloud, print, or ask questions about in the chat

Tips for the best result

  • Upload one chapter at a time. Shorter notes are easier to revise and each gets its own flashcards and quiz.
  • Scanned handouts work, but the cleaner the scan, the better. Rescan pages that came out crooked or dark.
  • Ask the chat on the note when something is unclear: it answers from the PDF, not from the internet.

What you can upload

Any PDF: lecture handouts, exported slides, textbook chapters, articles. Scanned PDFs work too, because Memo reads the pages as images when there is no text in them.

A very large PDF is best split by chapter. One note per chapter is also easier to revise than one note for a whole textbook.

Questions

Is this the same as a PDF summarizer?

It goes further. A summary tells you what the PDF is about; Memo's notes keep everything you need to learn and explain it, then give you flashcards and a quiz to check it.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. When a page is a picture rather than text, Memo reads the picture, so scanned handouts and photographed books work too.

Does the PDF have to be in English?

No. Memo writes the study material in the language the PDF is in.

Are the notes a summary or the whole thing?

They cover the whole material, organised and explained, not a few lines about it. The point is that you can learn from the notes alone.

Try it on your own material.
