Lecture recording → Flashcards
Turn a lecture recording into flashcards
The hard part of flashcards is making them. Memo listens to the lecture, works out the concepts and definitions that matter, and writes the deck for you, so you start revising instead of copying.

How it works
- Press Record a lecture when the lecture starts and leave your phone on the desk, or upload a recording you made with any voice recorder.
- Memo writes a full transcript first, in the language the lecture was in, so nothing the lecturer said is lost.
- Open the Flashcards tab on the note and Memo writes a deck on the concepts, definitions and facts that matter most.
- Go through the deck, mark each card, and repeat the rounds until every card is known.
What you get
- A deck of question-and-answer cards covering the key concepts
- Cards you flip and grade as known or not yet known
- The cards you missed come back in the next round until you know them
- Decks you can print and take with you
Tips for the best result
- Make one note per lecture, not one per week. Smaller decks get finished; huge ones get abandoned halfway.
- Go through the deck the day after the lecture, then again a few days later. Repetition at growing intervals is what moves cards into long-term memory.
- When a card makes no sense, open the note's transcript: the full sentence the lecturer said is there.
What you can upload
Record the lecture in Memo on your phone or computer, or upload a recording you already have: mp3, m4a, wav, aac, ogg, opus, flac, webm and more, up to three hours long.
Sit where the lecturer can be heard clearly. A recording made at the back of a loud hall still works, but questions from the audience may come out incomplete.
Questions
Do I get notes as well as flashcards?
Yes. Every lecture gets a transcript and notes, and the flashcards and the quiz are one tap away on the same note, so you can read first and test yourself after.
Can I record a lecture with the screen off?
Keep the screen on while Memo records in your browser. If you would rather lock your phone, record with its voice recorder app and upload the file afterwards: the result is the same.
Do I still get the transcript?
Yes. Every recording keeps its full transcript next to the notes, so you can check exactly what was said.
Can I study the flashcards on my phone?
Yes. Memo works in any phone browser, so you can go through a deck on the bus.
