Turn PowerPoint slides into flashcards

Slides already name the things you need to know; they just do not test you on them. Memo turns a slide deck into flashcards on every concept it covers, so the slides you were given become something you can practise with.

Card 12 left
The real app, with a sample lecture. Yours shows your own material.

How it works

  1. Download the slides from your course page and choose Upload a document in Memo.
  2. Memo reads the text and the images on every slide and fills in what bullet points only hint at.
  3. Open the Flashcards tab on the note and Memo writes a deck on the concepts, definitions and facts that matter most.
  4. Go through the deck, mark each card, and repeat the rounds until every card is known.

What you get

  • A deck of question-and-answer cards covering the key concepts
  • Cards you flip and grade as known or not yet known
  • The cards you missed come back in the next round until you know them
  • Decks you can print and take with you

Tips for the best result

  • One deck per lecture keeps rounds short enough to finish.
  • Do the cards for a lecture before the next one. Each lecture usually builds on the last.
  • Print the deck if you like paper cards: Memo prints them ready to cut.

What you can upload

PowerPoint presentations (.pptx), and slides exported from Google Slides or Keynote as .pptx or PDF. Memo reads the slide text and looks at the slides themselves, so diagrams are not lost.

Old .ppt files are not supported yet. Open the file and save it as .pptx or PDF first.

Questions

Can I use slides from Google Slides or Keynote?

Yes. Export them as .pptx or PDF and upload that file.

Can I use Google Slides?

Yes. In Google Slides choose File → Download → Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx) or PDF, then upload that file.

My slides are only bullet points. Is that enough?

Usually, yes. Memo explains the topic each slide names, so short slides still turn into notes you can learn from. If you also recorded the lecture, upload the recording too: it carries what the lecturer said around the slides.

Can I study the flashcards on my phone?

Yes. Memo works in any phone browser, so you can go through a deck on the bus.

Try it on your own material.
